Hi, reader! Welcome to The Intellectual and Emotional Journey of a Faithful Mind.
I suppose that the first thing I should do is introduce myself. I am an 18-year-old man who has just graduated from High School, bound for college with an expected English major and music minor with an aspiration to one day attend a Bible college and study to become a minister.
I am an intellectual; I spend a great deal of time (though honestly not as much as I would like) thinking and pondering many things and, when a logical question is posed to me, I set my mind to understanding the question or statement posed. I am a born-again Christian; I have been raised in a largely Baptist area of the United States and, though I do not consider myself a Baptist, I am grateful to my Baptist roots. However, I do not hold to what people tell me to believe; indeed, if someone is telling me to believe something, I become all the more skeptical and critical of their message. I have spent a great deal of my high school career preparing myself mentally, examining my own beliefs as well as the beliefs of other people thoroughly. One of my favorite quotes ever is “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.”
However , I do also consider myself a Romantic; another of my favorite phrases is “Carpe’ Diem” and I try to live my life as though it will end in the next moment. I love to write fantasy and science-fiction stories and I absolutely love music. I mean, to me, there are few experiences on Earth that compare to just listening to and enjoying music and singing, both for the intellectual and emotional experience. I played the French Horn is High School and have received a scholarship from the college I am attending for French Horn performance. I also hope to take up Artistry of various kinds as I grow older as well as my many other pursuits.
I am an Introvert, and some of my posts here will probably reflect that side of my nature. I can think deep within myself and sometimes feel the need to withdraw from public activity. In fact, I used to be so introverted that I hardly talked to anyone other than a few choice friends of mine, which resulted in a severe lack of social experience coming into high school.
However, I am also an Extrovert. I love being around people and getting to know them (though I confess right now that I am terrible with names!). In fact, right now, in the middle of the summertime, I’m going just a little bit stir-crazy from being out of contact with so many of my friends (even the ones I talk to online!) and feel the desire (which can sometimes get very extreme) to be around them. I am easy to get along with and an overall easy-going guy most of the time, though I have my moments, just like everyone else.
So, I am intellectual and Romantic; I am introvert and extrovert; I am a singer, musician, writer, actor, Christian, skeptic, reader, gamer, thinker, joker, student, Star Trek fan, Star Wars fan, Babylon 5 fan, and quite a few other things as well.
This is actually the second blog I have started; the first one I started on ChristianForums.com, where it actually achieved something like 60,000 hits! However, the way I kept that blog, it became more of an online journal, so I am actually hoping to steer more away from that, though I am certain that there will be some posts in the future where all I can talk about is how frustrated I am with something or someone. However, I hope to balance that out with more intellectual and observational posts than I had in my previous blog. I also exhaustively quoted from dozens if not hundreds of songs in my previous blog for no other purpose than to showcase my awe at the lyrics of the song. This I also hope to cut down on somewhat. I also hope to use this blog to keep in better touch with some of my friends when I am at college.
Finally, I would like to gladly reference the blog of my English II/Great Books teacher Matt Cardin. He is also a writer and thinker, though he is far more in-depth of thought than I am, as reflected in his blog posts. However, he is a very studious, knowledgeable person and I would highly recommend reading his blog as well. I will likely comment in it from time to time and I can only hope that some of my blog posts can measure up to the scope of intellectual thought that you will find at his blog. Most of my blog posts will probably also come from a decidedly Christian perspective and some will probably discuss Christian doctrine and behavior. Really, I have no idea where this will go, but it sure will be fun to find out!!
Thus concludes my first post…and I believe that I will sign off with the same name that I used on my Christian Forums blog: Soldier_For_Christ, or SfC, as I eventually abbrev’ed it.
SfC
P.S. Please be certain to inform me of any spelling/grammatical errors. I am a hopeful English major, so such things annoy me a lot! Good day!
